Included in the original release of the Fiesta pottery line, the 12" Comport shows the early ambition of Homer Laughlin's now famous solid color dinnereware line from the 1930s. To manufacture such a large bowl and then detail it with a hand tooled foot and mass produce it was highly labor intensive production. The 12" comport transcends regular tableware and elevates the table. Produced for only ten years, the footed salad bowl is a delight to find. Available in only the original six glazes, variety will be found in the hand worked foot. Two varities are known, one has a more flared out foot, somewhat thinner, usually accompanied by an glaze stamp and a second variety where the foot is thicker and does not flare out and is usually found unmarked.
12 1/2" wide x 3 1/2" tall
The 12" comport is one of the few pieces that did not include an in the mold mark, so it is not uncommon to find them unmarked (after all it did take extra time to use the glaze dipped stamp), if the time was taken to mark the piece it will be with the glaze stamp "GENUINE fiesta HLCo USA"
Circa 1936-1946: Red discontinued by the end of 1942.
