There are two varieties of the Vintage Fiesta ashtray. The early version will have seven concentric rings on the bottom of the piece and will be unmarked since the bottom was covered with rings and there was no place for the ink mark. Around 1940, a few years after the start of production, automatic jiggering machines were utilized at Homer Laughlin, which resulted in a loss of all but two bottom rings, leaving room to add the "Genuine Fiesta" backstamp. Early varieties are available in the original six colors, while the ashtray can be found in all eleven vintage colors, with medium green comanding the highest prices due to its later and shorter production run.
Above are not only the two types of marks, but an early example in ivory that also had the glaze stamp applied to it over the rings. This just goes to show you that there are no concrete rules when it comes to the fiesta marks and just about anything can happen at the Homer Laughlin China Company factories.
